是彻底地火了!

5月16日下午,凤凰城中英文学校PYP三年级的八个孩子,在中教罗秋艳老师和外籍教师Zia的带领下,作为本次现场唯一的一场英语阅读示范课的特邀小嘉宾们,齐齐亮相于广州希尔顿逸林酒店举行的剑桥季·赋能英语阅读教学高峰论坛上。


什么是“剑桥季·赋能英语阅读教学高峰论坛?”

此论坛由英国剑桥大学出版社联合二十一世纪出版社和品众教育邀请的来自英国、中国大陆和澳门特别行政区的著名英语教学专家等大咖们,为英语作为非母语的教师在实际教学中提供足够的理论和实践以提高教师今后的英语教学而设。

本次论坛云集了教育界的大咖们!

在众多教育界大咖的面前,凤凰城中英文国际小学部三年级的孩子们在展示课上表现的到底如何?

课堂从对故事的预测环节开始,同学们根据绘本封面在教师的引导下用五个W的问题大胆自信地用流利的英语对绘本内容进行预测:“I guess the story should be like this, Sinbad meets a girl in the sea. They fall in love with each other. Finally, Sinbad marries the girl. He said to her, “You are my destiny.”学生幽默、新颖且充满想象力的语言赢得了观众们阵阵的掌声。

然后,教师通过前几页的绘本内容对学生进行指引性阅读,并提醒学生注意新的特点、挑战和概念的学习,进而培养学生的独立阅读、提出问题和相互解决问题的能力。

接着,教师以“What did you learn about Sinbad?”问题驱动教学,引导学生们通过回到文本寻找事例以丰富他们认为Sinbad非常brave,clever和helpful的观点,孩子们自由地、辨证地发表了自己的想法。在深入阅读过程中,他们不仅掌握了分析人物与情节的方法,还形成了辩证看问题的思维能力。

最后,孩子们结合IB的素质和态度,对自己的学习进行了反思,“I think I am as brave as Sinbad because I can speak confidently even though I don’t like speaking on this stage.”

此次的论坛不仅为一线教师们在教授英语阅读上指明了方向,而且还进一步地提升了教师对剑桥英语教育哲学和国际前沿英语阅读教学理念的认识与理解。论坛上正面的评价再一次印证了凤凰城中英文学校在PYP的英语教学--PYP中外教合作的模式课堂给第二外语学习者所带来的巨大优势。教师以引导为主的探究式课堂不仅很好地激发了学习者的思维能力,想象力和创造力,而且还让学习者拥有了非凡的语言实际运用能力。

Cambridge conference demo lesson

On May 16th, Miss Luo and Zia were selected to demonstrate a guided reading lesson for the Cambridge Reading Adventures Conference.  The Conference was held to provide more information and resources related to the organization, structure and practice of guided reading lessons. Teachers were extremely honored to be displaying the final product of a guided reading lesson to hundreds of observers, including some very respected guests in the education field. The main objectives for this lesson went beyond that of reading comprehension; students were guided to show off their amazing thinking and prediction skills and their creativity as well as instill good values and morals through the characters in the story while making connections to ourselves and the IB Learner Profile. The story chosen was quite fitting for the occasion: Sinbad’s Adventure. As it turns out, the teachers were in for quite the adventure themselves. Just as Sinbad travelled a new road to seek fortune, the two teachers and eight students (Merida, Simon, Candy, Kuan, Bowen, Danny, Natik and Grace) found themselves in a mini van travelling to an unknown location to accomplish the mission. Just as Sinbad was brave and caring to protect the king from the octopus, we found ourselves walking onto a stage with hundreds of eyes on us. Teachers and students alike helped each other to feel calm and brave in the face of a challenge. It was truly an excellent experience for them and in a way, they found our fortune too.

The students performed admirably during the lesson, they were eager to participate and didn’t shy away from the microphone. They spoke loud and confidently, they weren’t afraid to show their predictions and read aloud for the audience. The guests were really impressed at their level of thinking and communication.

After the lesson, a feedback session was held with the panel of experts. Both teachers and students received very high praise and vindicated the hard work put in.

Finally, the demo lesson was a good reflection on the school’s philosophy on education, they demonstrated advanced teaching methodology and incorporated all of the essential elements of IB. The students were truly a good representation of the effectiveness of the PCIS approach-they definitely earned their burgers from McDonald’s as a reward!
