自2011年创办以来，北京国际电影节在嘉宾星光度、参赛参展影片质量及国际影响力等方面持续提升，已经成为北京市每年举办的极具国际影响力的大型文化活动，是国际交流的大平台、电影市场的风向标、新人新作的孵化器、城市文化的新品牌。第八届北影节以“共享资源，共赢未来”主题，包括主竞赛单元“天坛奖”评奖、开幕式、北京展映、北京策划·主题论坛、电影市场、电影嘉年华、闭幕式暨颁奖典礼七大主体活动，以及“注目未来”单元、纪录单元、网络电影单元、电影音乐会、电影沙龙、新片发布等300余项活动。
